“One Million” (2025) - Marcelo Segall

Marcelo Segall’s installation One Million (2025) confronts viewers with the intertwined forces of power, money and violence, inviting reflection and dialogue.

Marcelo Segall - One Million – Installation at Unknown Amsterdam

Marcelo Segall’s latest installation at Unknown Amsterdam is a powerful reflection on the intersection of power, violence, and economic systems. At its center, the face of a ruler emerges in camouflage tones, layered with scorched textures. It is a portrait that is both revered and corroded.

To one side, the euro symbol is formed from delicate porcelain figurines. These symbols of innocence and domestic life are reimagined as fragile instruments of finance. On the other side, a rifle assembled from the same materials speaks to aggression and control. Together, these elements reveal how human lives and personal values are absorbed into the machinery of capital and conflict.

The work carries a price tag of one million euros and poses a direct question to its audience. What is the true cost of power, and who is willing to pay it? Segall invites viewers to reflect on their own place within these dynamics and to consider the systems they uphold or resist.
