Silvina de Selva
Silvina De Selva (1989, Uruguay) works in painting and ceramics, moving between large-scale surfaces and intimate sculptural forms.
Her practice is closely tied to the places she has lived and worked, including New York, Budapest, Montevideo, São Paulo, Leipzig, Umbria, and Amsterdam. Each move shaped the materials at hand, the rhythm of the studio, and the way her body relates to the work.
Painting introduced her to gesture and scale, while ceramics brought weight, texture and the slow, attentive process of shaping and firing. The two practices inform one another, sharing a sense of improvisation, repetition and physical memory.
Her work often begins from sensation or recollection and evolves through making, rather than planning, allowing color, form and touch to guide the direction of each piece. She is currently based between Amsterdam and Umbria, where she continues developing this conversation between surface and object, movement and grounding, presence and trace.
