Matthew Ryan Herget

Matthew Ryan Herget (b. 1990, Miami, Florida) is a self taught multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, mural work, photography, sculpture, digital media, and text. Based in Miami, his work is rooted in a continuous engagement with nature, movement, and lived experience, approaching creation as an extension of daily life rather than a separate discipline. Herget has presented five solo exhibitions across the United States, with additional presentations in galleries in Miami, Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, San Francisco, Long Beach, Seattle, and Tampa. His work has also been included in institutional and art week contexts such as the Long Beach Museum of Art, Coral Gables Museum, and presentations during Miami Art Week and LA Art Week. His works are held in private collections internationally.

My practice moves through the idea of art as a way of being rather than a fixed outcome. I am interested in the space where life and art dissolve into one another, where experience, memory, and perception become material. The work grows from a sense of exploration, guided as much by instinct as by intention.

Painting is an evolving process of construction and removal. Layers are built, disrupted, and excavated, allowing the surface to carry its own history. This rhythm between control and surrender shapes each work over time, sometimes across years, until it arrives at a point of resonance.

I am drawn to the belief that art holds a transcendent capacity, something that can connect beyond language and articulate what is otherwise difficult to express. Through texture, movement, and accumulation, I aim to create spaces that invite reflection, energy, and a deeper awareness of presence.
